Dr. Kelly brings extensive experience as a teacher, program consultant, and curriculum specialist. She has taught in Spanish/English bilingual programs across New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, and has supported educators as an MLL Specialist in Providence-based charter schools. She earned her doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University, where her research examined cross-cultural relationships within dual language programs.
Her current research and advocacy center on integrating culturally affirming, asset-based practices into K–12 programs for multilingual learners. She is especially interested in innovative, holistic approaches that engage teachers, families, and community organizations to support newcomer students. Her recent work explores translanguaging pedagogies, sustaining multilingualism in schools, and expanding dual language programming into secondary settings. Across all of her work, Dr. Kelly is committed to keeping joy at the center of the important work happening in schools.
