Please note that your submission of this application does not guarantee you a placement through the Brown Tutoring Corps. Participation in one Engagement Preparation Day is a requirement of the onboarding process.

In order to participate in the Brown Tutoring Corps, tutors must be at least 18 years of age. If you will not be 18 years old before the last Engagement Preparation Day, we cannot provide the necessary clearances and can therefore not allow you tutor - please consider reapplying next semester!

This information will help us understand what experience you bring to the BTC as we match tutors with classrooms and students. Providence and Pawtucket serve many multilingual students and the following languages are reported as the most commonly spoken in the districts. Please let us know if you have experience speaking, reading or writing any of the following languages. For our purposes, 'proficiency' means that you could support a student's academic work in this language and 'familiarity' means you could engage in a basic conversation in this language. NOTE: this is an optional question; you do not need proficiency in any of these languages to be eligible to tutor.
Engagement Preparation Day
Students engaging through the Brown Tutoring Corps are required to attend one engagement preparation day at the Swearer Center (located at the corner of Stimson/Hope) to complete certain compliance requirements for working with minors.
Brown University students who do not participate in one of the Engagement Preparation Days will not be able to engage through the Brown Tutoring Corps.

Required Engagement Preparation Day:
Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 1 pm - 3:30 pm
Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 1pm - 3:30 pm
OR
Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 1pm - 3:30 pm

- No appointment needed, drop-in when you can during the specified times
- Process will take ~20 minutes
- Bring your government-issued ID (passport, driver's license, state ID)
- Bring a laptop or smart phone if you have one
Required Tutor Training
The required BTC Training will be offered in-person, with three dates to choose from, and are 2 hours in length. This training will allow tutors to get to know each other, and learn important updates about the program, scheduling, and site needs.
